∞ Skype released for iPad

It’s out, it’s not out, it’s back out again – Skype for iPad is now available, and it’s a free download.

[ad#Google Adsense 300×250 in story]Skype, the popular voice, text and video chat service, is now available for the iPad. It’s already out for iPhone and has been available for the Mac (and PC) for some time. The software lets iPad and iPad 2 users chat and text, and iPad 2 users can also use their front and rear-facing video cameras.

The software automatically syncs contacts with your existing Skype account, and it works over Wi-Fi or 3G. It communicates with other iPads, phones, computers and TVs equipped with Skype. Added features are unlocked by paying for additional Skype services.

There was some confusion late Monday when it appeared that Skype for iPad had been released on the App Store but then disappeared. Skype indicated it was released prematurely. But Tuesday’s release of Skype for iPad seems to be the real deal.

System requirements call for iOS 4.0 or later.
