Game developer Positech Games is following up their successful game Gratuitous Space Battles with Gratuitous Tank Battles. The game is in development for Mac OS X and Windows, and is due out later this year.

[ad#Google Adsense 300×250 in story]Gratuitous Tank Battles is described as a hybrid combination of real time strategy game and Tower Defense game, with online elements and customizable units. You can either take the role of the defender or the attacker.

Says the developer:

“GTB takes place in an alternate reality where the ‘central powers’ never surrender and the ‘great war’ continues for two hundred years. Soldiers still fight in the trenches of the Somme, although rifles have (mostly) become laser rifles and giant armored mechs stride across no-mans land. The two great armies continue to fight with patriotic zeal and little memory of who Franz Ferdinand was and what happened to him. One thing is certain: It will all be over by Christmas 2114.”

Gratuitous Tank Battles will feature a built-in map editor to let players create custom maps and defensive challenges similar to Gratuitous Space Battles.
