MOTU recently shipped two products that musicians will most certainly be interested in: Digital Performer (DP) 7.2 and DP Control, an iPhone app that allows you to control DP from Apple’s mobile devices. DP Control is an app that works with the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad to control the DP interface from your mobile device. The screen is split up in sections, which makes it even easier to find the exact control you want. Sections on the bottom are: Transport, Tracks, Mixer and Settings.
Choosing one of the sections gives you even more options to control the project you are working on. Whatever changes you make on your iPhone are made on the Mac as well. For instance, adding a marker or renaming a take from the iPhone changes the track on your Mac, so it’s more than just a play, pause and rewind control.
DP Control is a free download from the App Store and requires MOTU’s recently released Digital Performer 7.2.
DP 7.2 includes several changes including support for the DP Control iPhone app. Digital Performer now gives users the ability to completely change the look and feel of the interface using themes.
There are a number of themes like “Carbon Fiber,” “Zen,” “Plasma,” and “Producer” included with the update and if you’re good with Photoshop, you can make your own.
Digital Performer 7.2 is available for download from the company’s website. Pricing for upgrades is also available.
