A tech support bulletin posted on Apple’s Web site indicates that some Time Capsules sold in 2008 may be eligible to be replaced, if they are having problems powering up.
Time Capsule is Apple’s wireless network backup device, designed to work in conjunction with the Time Machine software found on later versions of Mac OS X. It features an internal hard drive and acts as an 802.11n-based Wi-Fi base station; it also includes Gigabit Ethernet ports and a USB port suitable for connecting an external hard drive or USB printer.
The service notice indicates that units affected by this issue may not power on or may shut down unexpectedly after starting up. Time Capsules covered under this replacement order have serial numbers in the following range: XX807XXXXXX – XX814XXXXXX. Apple estimates that such units were sold approximately between February and June of 2008.
