∞ Analyst confident in strong iPad sales for June quarter, despite delay

Despite announcing earlier today that the iPad launch would be delayed by one month internationally, Apple still has Wall Street analysts on its side. In a note to clients on Wednesday, Piper Jaffray senior research analyst, Gene Munster said that even with the delay he has confidence in the forecast of 1.3 million iPad units for June quarter. However, because of the delay, he is not increasing that estimate.

The delay may not be good for international markets, but it still shows strong support for the product at home, in the U.S. Even though Munster is not increasing his overall quarterly estimate, he does say that “our math suggests Apple could sell closer to 1.8m units in the June quarter.”

Apple cited stronger than expected demand for the iPad in the U.S. as the reason for the delay to international markets. The company is expected to ship the Wi-Fi + 3G model at the end of April.
