Speech recognition software-maker MacSpeech on Tuesday said it has been acquired by Nuance, makers of Dragon speech recognition software for Windows. “I’m sure that folks will have a lot of questions about what today’s news means for Dragon and for Dictate. Rest assured, if you currently use either product, nothing will change in the near term. In the coming weeks, we promise to share updates with you as regularly as possible,” said Peter Mahoney, senior vice president and general manager, Dragon, on the MacSpeech Web site.
Nuance said they will add more research and development, Dragon brand recognition, marketing support and distribution channels for the MacSpeech product line.
The acquisition isn’t that big of a surprise when you think about it. MacSpeech has been licensing the Dragon dictation technology for almost two years, so the companies have an established partnership.
Among its existing products, Nuance has Dragon Dictation for the iPhone.
