∞ Macworld Expo: Was it successful?

Macworld Expo 2010 is over, and the show is being hailed as a success by many attendees. That is great news for IDG and the Mac community as a whole. I called Macworld Expo General Manager, Paul Kent, yesterday to offer my congratulations on the show. I wasn’t able to reach him, but I’m sure we’ll talk soon.

I posted my thoughts on the challenges Expo had to face in early January. To say it caused a stir would be an understatement. But I believe that Macworld Expo had some significant challenges to overcome — and still do.

Of course, I wasn’t at the show, but I have talked to people that were. For the most part, the comments about the show were quite positive.

Here’s the way the comments broke down. If you went to the show for the conferences and to network with other people in the industry, you had a successful time at Macworld Expo. I heard that from almost everybody I spoke with. That has always been a big part of the show and it’s significant that IDG was able to maintain that portion of it.

I did hear from some press that were disappointed with the lack of big announcements at the show. I can see that too.

Lastly, while most of the show-goers seemed happy with the exhibitors, some were a bit disappointed in the size and number of booths. That’s to be expected. The show was significantly smaller than it was in previous years, but that’s something IDG can build on.

I suspect if the vendors were happy (and most seem to be) then more vendors will come next year. That will bring more significant announcements and a bigger show floor.

There are some questions about the show that I would still like answered. How many conference attendees came? How many people attended? What was the final exhibitor count? How many exhibitors signed up for next year?

While Macworld Expo still has some significant hurdles to overcome, Paul Kent pulled off Macworld Expo 2010. Kudos to Paul and his team.
