If you’re attending Macworld Expo this week in San Francisco, Calif. you might want to plan to go out Friday night to the Red Devil Lounge for a concert. The concert is being put on as a benefit for the earthquake victims in Haiti, and one of the bands playing — the Atomic Love Bombs — features a well known Mac personality. The Mac Observer’s Bryan Chaffin has been around the Mac industry for many years, giving his views on the latest happenings in the market. He’s also well-known for his love of music and playing guitar.
I spoke with Chaffin about the band and the release of its first CD. As one of three guitar players, he said the influences for the sound of the band run deep, from 1960s acts like Velvet Underground to The Rolling Stones.
The mix of influences show in the band’s songs. Chaffin described it as coming from the Psychedelic and Punkadelic scene, with some Pop and Garage Band thrown in, which makes sense, but there is so much more to it. And that’s what makes the music their own.
“When we work out material we don’t say ‘we want it to saound like this band,'” said Chaffin. “Whenever you write a song, there is something that inspires you to do that — that’s what we focus on.”
The first album has 11 songs and is available from the iTunes Store.
If you want to see the Atomic Love Bombs live, you can purchase tickets online for the show on Friday, February 12, 2010 at the Red Devil Lounge. The show starts at 8:00 and tickets cost $8.00.
If you’re in the area, stop by and say hi to Bryan and support the band! You can also find the band on Facebook.
