∞ Dragon Age: Origins headed to Mac this month

BioWare and TransGaming have announced plans to release a Macintosh version of Dragon Age: Origins on Dec. 21, 2009. It’s coming in Standard and Digital Deluxe versions for $50 and $65 respectively.

dragonageDragon Age: Origins is a role-playing game developed by the makers of Mass Effect and Knights of the Old Republic. It was released in early November for the Xbox 360 and Windows; the PlayStation 3 version followed later that month. The Mac version will ship only a month after the PS3 version’s release.

Described as a “dark heroic fantasy, Dragon Age Origins immerses you in a fantasy world populated by humans, dwarves, elves and myriad monsters and magic creatures. You assume the role of a Grey Warden, a member of an ancient order who defend the land from demonic entities.

The game features six different origin stories (depending on how you configure your character), with complex moral choices that affect the outcome of the game. BioWare estimates that Dragon Age: Origins has about 80 hours of gameplay – more than double the size and scope of Mass Effect.

The Deluxe version adds the Warden’s Keep game add-on, with new quests, new features and new items and abilities; several exclusive in-game items; a soundtrack; and a collection of desktop wallpapers.

Dragon Age: Origins is rated M for Mature, for gamers 17 and older.

System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.6.2 or later, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, ATI X1600 or Nvidia 7300 or later, 17GB hard disk space. The game will not run on PowerPC-based Macs, and it is not supported on Macs that use Intel GMA class graphics.
