MacTech magazine has announced that it has acquired MacMod.com, the premier site for Mac enthusiasts who like to “mod” their systems. “Modding” is a popular hobby for computer enthusiasts who want to customize their systems beyond simply installing a new desktop. The mods can go from mild to wild, from people who install customized componentry to make the Mac run faster, better, or do things that it couldn’t do from the factory, to total system conversions that make the Mac look unlike anything else available.
MacTech, founded in 1984, is a monthly magazine that focuses specifically on the Mac-using technical pro. The Web site and publication claim 150,000 monthly readers in 175 countries.
For now, both Web sites will exist independently, but over time MacTech plans to integrate MacMod.com into its own site, and plans to integrate MacMod content into the magazine.
